Article I - Duties of Executing Senate

Preparing Senate Meetings

The Chair of Senate must prepare a presentation that outlines the Senate agenda,

The Chair of Senate must coordinate with administrative departments to solidify meeting dates between the Senate and Administration,

The Chair of Senate must maintain communication surrounding in-senate follow up, including, but not limited to:

  1. The student concerns tracker,
  2. Getting written responses from administration for questions not answered in the Senate space, etc.

The Chair of Senate is responsible for maintaining a semester long Senate schedule of Senate meeting prerogatives,

The Chair of Senate, with assistance from the Chair of Halls of SGA and the Chair of Special Interests of SGA, must maintain accurate Senator attendance records,

The Chair of Senate, with assistance from the Chair of Halls of SGA and the Chair of Special Interests of SGA and contribution/consent from the Senate body, must establish consistent expectations and culture for the Senate space,

The Chair of Senate is responsible for implementing all voting procedures, with assistance from the Chair of Halls of SGA and the Chair of Special Interests of SGA,

The Chair of Senate, with assistance from the Chair of Halls of SGA and the Chair of Special Interests of SGA, must facilitate discourse and debate in the Senate space.

Running Senate

Senator attendance will be tracked through a sign in form that is maintained by the Chair of Senate with assistance from Chair of Halls and Chair of Special Interests

The Chair of Senate must facilitate discussion and debate per agenda item,

The Chair of Senate, with the support of the Executive Board, especially the Chair of Halls and the Chair of Special Interests, is responsible for creating an inclusive, participatory environment wherein Senators feel safe and respoected,

The Chair of Senate, with the support of the Chair of Halls and the Chair of Special Interests, must refer to Article VII, Section B: Quorum of the Bylaws in facilitating in-Senate votes and elections,

The Chair of Senate, with the support of the Chair of Halls and the Chair of Special Interests, must refer to Article II, Section(s) G, H, and I of the Bylaws in facilitating ratification of petitions, resolutions, or memorandums.

Article II - Senate Structure

Schedule

The Senate will operate on a tri-weekly cycle consisting of: Preparatory Senates, Department or Administrative Senate Meetings, and Debrief Senates

Preparatory Senate Meeting

  1. Senate Commissions review and research the current initiatives, concerns, and objectives pertaining to the presenting department at the following Senate meeting as applicable to their designated focus;
  2. In their research, Senate Commissions work to determine information that is not known and mechanisms of figuring out that information in advance of the senate,
  3. Senate Commissions may collaborate to create their questions,

Senate Commissions create and submit questions to Chair of Senate to be asked at the following Senate meeting,

  1. The Chair of Senate, with the support of the Chair of Halls and the Chair of Special Interests, will create an agenda of questions to be asked at the following Senate that will be distributed to all participating parties twenty four (24) hours in advance,

During Preparatory Senate Meetings, interested parties can utilize the platform of SGA Senate meetings at the discretion of the Chair of Senate.

Department or Administrative Senate Meetings

  1. Departments, offices, or other administrative entities may be invited by the Chair of Senate to Senate meetings for dialogue and debate concerning their policies and programming,
  2. The Senate will have an assumed hour of dialogue and debate with the invited entity;
  3. Questions are to be allotted for each Senate Commission, as established within the aforementioned agenda,
  4. Department or Administrative Senate Meetings facilitate dialogue between Senators, representatives from departments or administration, and the greater campus community. Follow-up questions are open to the floor, pending time constraints.

Debrief Senate Meeting

  1. Senate Commissions engage in discussion about the previous Department or Administrative Senate meeting,
  2. Debriefing is to occur both within the Senate Commissions and between Commissions, and shall allow for the development of further communication and actionable steps by the Senate Commissions,
  3. The aforementioned discussion is used to inform next steps, which may include but are not limited to: resolutions and memorandums,
  4. Senate Commissions may collaborate with one another to form a resolution or memorandum,
  5. During Debrief Senate Meetings, interested parties can utilize the platform of SGA Senate meetings at the discretion of the Chair of Senate.

Senate Commissions

Senate Commissions are created by the Senate at the beginning of each academic year, with the commencement of Senate meetings.

Senate Commissions shall be formed by and comprised of Senators, as initiated by the Chair of Senate of SGA,

Each Senate Commission shall focus on a specific topic, as designated by the Senate body, past examples have included but are not limited to, campus accessibility, finances, and environmental sustainability,

Senate Commissions shall attend to their designated perviews in dialogue, debate, and all considerations and deliberations of the Senate body on the part of their constituencies.
