Role of the Chair of Senate

The Chair of Senate shall:

Call and preside over all meetings of the Senate, and shall call upon the Chair of Hall Senators or Chair of Organizations if unable to do so,

Public Speaking

  1. When presenting and/or facilitating dialogue in Senate,

Organization

  1. When planning to execute the established goals of the Senate in a given academic year,
  2. Planning weekly Senate,
  3. Planning timeline for the semester,
  4. Planning for the academic year,

Flexibility

  1. When having to adjust Senate agendas and/or goals to reflect current events,

"Vote only in the case of a tie and remain neutral in all Senate discussion",

  1. Be impartial when
  2. considering ideas having to do with the Senate,

"Prepare the agenda of the Senate meetings",

  1. Share Senate meeting agendas with Executive Board members, Senators, and any invited College representatives,

"Ensure that quorum is met at each Senate meeting with the assistance of the Chair of Organizations and the Chair of Halls",

  1. Maintain accurate Senator records,
  2. Familiarity with Constitutional Procedures
  3. When using Senator records to calculate quorum,
  4. When planning for a variety of Senate procedures,
  5. To discern what is needed to satisfy Constitutional stipulations regarding a variety of Senate functions, including but not limited to: passing memorandums, passing resolutions, and general voting procedures,

"With the help of the Chair of Halls and the Chair of Special Interests, plan Senator Training",

  1. Cultivate effective and empowering Senator training curriculum,

"With the help of the Chair of Halls and the Chair of Special Interests, plan Senator Appreciation",

  1. Engage with Senators and other community members in the Senate space,
  2. Design and executing Senator Appreciation

Clarify all points of order when necessary,

  1. Familiarity with Constitutional Procedures,
  2. When clarifying information having to do with Constitutional ordinances,

Disseminate information to Executive Board Members and Senators,

"Create a contract for all senators to sign and adhere to",

  1. Create a clear and accessible Senator contract
  2. Disseminate and collecting Senator contracts,

"Serve as a liaison for all memorandums and campus concerns correspondence from submission to completion",

  2. Work with the Administration and other respective parties regarding memorandums and campus concerns correspondence,
  3. Engage in correspondence with the Executive Board, Senators, College Administration, or other members of the Mount Holyoke community,
