Banking Transactions for Student Groups

  • What is the SGA Business Office?

The SGA Student Business Office provides banking operations and account oversight, as well as training, to MHC's 130+ recognized student groups and all residential halls. This includes utilizing Embark to:

    • Request payments and reimbursements
    • Process transfers
    • Make deposits
    • Process credit card orders
    • Process campus bill payments
  • What is the Difference Between SGA Ways & Means and the SGA Business Office?

The Business Office is not SGA Ways & Means. Ways & Means is an autonomous SGA Committee that evaluates student group funding applications and allocates money.

The SGA Business Office is part of the Office of Student Involvement. The Office manages the Ways & Means funding to groups.

For questions about budget creation & funding, please contact SGA Ways & Means.

  • Point of Contact

The office is overseen by the SGA Student Business Office Coordinator (Kimberly Lavoie) with support from student bookkeepers and Financial Services.

The Business Office has limited hours. Please note, if you email us your email will be responded to during our open hours.

  • How to Access Funds Through Embark

In order to access funds in your recognized student organization account, whether allocated funds from Ways & Means or student organization or Group Funds, you need to:

    • Be an Officer/Authorized Signer in Embark.
    • Verify your finances in Embark or with the SGA Business Office.
    • Follow the Group Funding, Budgets & Payment Request Guide.
    • Submit requests within the appropriate time frames given.
    • You will need itemized receipts, invoices & any other supporting documentation.
    • When reimbursing a student, please ensure to use their name that is registered with their bank.
    • Inform the office where the checks need to be to mailed.

  • Group Budgeting, Funding & Payments

Visit the Embark Resources site for guides to help you make budget (funding) requests, understand your group's Embark Accounting Book, and how to conduct financial transactions.

On that site you will also find contracting resources, and information about audits and campus bills.
