Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Our purpose as a sports club is to provide interested students a chance to learn and compete in a sport they can continue to enjoy throughout life. We do this by holding weekly practice sessions and competing in tournaments ranging in scale from local to national.

Can I join right now?

We teach beginning fencing at the start of each semester. Come say hi at the involvement fair to get more details on this, or reach out to us via email. After this beginning teaching period ends, we are unable to take new inexperienced fencers until the start of the next semester. If you have prior experience with fencing, reach out to us about the possibility of joining mid-semester.

Practices are held in the Kendall field house from 7:30 - 9:30 pm Monday-Thursday.

Do I have to come to every practice?

There is no minimum number of practices you need to attend. Many members enjoy attending from as little as a couple practices a semester, to as much as four times per week. You are welcome to do either of these or anything in between!

Does Fencing have restrictive guidelines for trans athletes?

All students are welcome at MHC fencing practices regardless of gender identity. For those who wish to compete, we follow the guidelines set by the conference that hosts each competition. This varies by competition but in general, none of our conferences prohibit trans athletes from participating in the gender category that best aligns with their identity.
