TL; DR: Involvement Fair, New Senate Structure, Committee Yourself
I am excited to announce that the Involvement Fair is TODAY, Sunday, September 6th! The virtual booths will be staffed from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm EDT on Embark. If you are looking for ways to get more involved, to meet new people, and have fun, be sure to come to and check out our two virtual booths. Use this link to start exploring on Sunday.
The SGA Senate Team - Jane Kvederas, Chair of Senate, A’mara Braynen, Chair of Special Interests, and Phoebe Murtagh, Chair of Halls - would like to update you all regarding the overall structure and timeline of Senate this year.
The SGA has adopted a new Senate structure in which student groups/organizations will no longer automatically have a Senator and instead will now need to fill out this quick form to be granted a Senator. Student groups/organizations are no longer required to have a Senator to remain active, and may choose whether or not to participate in SGA.
Additionally, this new structure is an opportunity available for all students affiliated with any group, committee, or otherwise organized needs/interests (i.e. not only registered orgs) to have their voices heard, take action, and be directly involved in transforming Senate representation by petitioning to join Senate as a representative of their need or interest.
As the Chair of Special Interests, (formerly known as the Chair of Organizations) A’mara is the main contact person for anyone and everyone seeking information regarding student representation in SGA/Senate. Additionally, more information on the Hall Senator system will be sent out separately from the Chair of Halls, Phoebe.
Previously, Senate was held on Tuesdays from 7 pm until 9 pm EDT. However, due to schedule conflicts, time zone differences, and accessibility concerns, Senate will now be held via Zoom on Saturdays from 10 am until 11:30 am EDT and Department Visits (Town Halls) will be held on Wednesdays from 4:30 pm until 6 pm EDT this fall semester/year.
Our first meeting will be held on the morning of September 26th, 2020.
Finally, once the majority of student orgs have recruited members via the Student Involvement Fair (Sept. 6th, 2020), the Senate Team will be in contact with anyone interested in being involved in SGA about further specifics.
Please feel free to reach out with questions and clarifications. Thank you so much to everyone who has already inquired - we love your enthusiasm! We are excited to welcome you all (new students and SGA veterans alike) to this more inclusive, more representative Senate, and look forward to working with you throughout the year.
Joining an SGA Committee is a quick and easy way to get involved in Mount Holyoke's student government. They provide the space and resources for campus advocacy, community building, and student involvement!
This semester, we have numerous committees with their own individual missions looking for passionate and dedicated members. You can learn more about how committees work and about each of the individual committees at this link.
To apply for a committee, please visit the SGA Appointing Board Embark Page where you will find the CY Fall 2020 Application. The application will be open until Thursday September 17th, 2020 at Midnight EDT.
After you submit your application, there will be an interview. Interviews are around 30-40 minutes in length, and are a mixture of group and individual. Interviews will be taking place on Saturday September 19th. You can sign up for your interview on the last page of your application!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to this year's Chair of Committees, Kayla Hinkson-Grant (email@example.com) or to Appointing Board at firstname.lastname@example.org . We look forward to reviewing your application!
Senate and committees are fabulous ways to get more involved in your community! I hope to see you at the Involvement Fair this Sunday.
Have a great weekend,
On behalf of the Executive Board
