New Anti-Hazing Requirements

Hello RSO Leaders,

In December 2024, the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act became law, requiring colleges and universities to report hazing incidents and make their prevention policies and education efforts publicly available. While Massachusetts has had hazing prevention laws for many years, and MHC already had its own policy in place, the new federal legislation broadens the College’s responsibilities around reporting and prevention. Schools must now track and report hazing incidents connected to their campus communities and share details about their prevention and education programs.

Also in accordance with the Stop Campus Hazing Act, Mount Holyoke is now mandating online training for all board members in Student Organizations, including Club Sports and Interest Groups. Officers will receive an email directing them to the Vector module in the next few days.

Additionally, two officers from each group must attend an in-person session led by Nashalie Vazquez-Pacheco, Director of Community Standards:

Building Healthy Group Traditions

Hazing has no place in our community — but group traditions, bonding, and shared experiences do. In this workshop, student leaders will review Mount Holyoke’s Anti-Hazing Policy, learn what counts as hazing (and what doesn’t), and explore creative strategies for building group cohesion, pride, and belonging without harmful practices.

  • Tuesday, September 9th, 5:00–5:45 PM, in Hooker Auditorium
  • Monday, September 15th, 5:00–5:45 PM, in Hooker Auditorium
Please send any questions to Nashalie Vazquez-Pacheco and Jaime DeCaro.

Thank you,

Office of Student Involvement
