Come learn about the history of the Philippines with us! Liyang Western Massachusetts will share the root causes of oppression in the Philippines, including a history of how the Spanish and U.S. colonial periods impacted Philippine society and how imperialism continues to affect people in the Philippines. The presentation will be held in the Community Room of Blanchard from 5:30 - 7 pm on Wednesday, April 13th.

At the event, we will be hosting a raffle where you have the chance to win 'balikbayan' boxes of snacks, a book facilitated by Indigenous Philippine women, handmade jewelry and clothing, and local art! We are accepting optional donations through the raffle to support the families affected by Typhoon Rai, as well as the families of the New Bataan 5 (https://chng.it/y2njprQTBd), who were civilians and community volunteers that were killed on 2/24. You can enter the raffle and learn how to donate at tinyurl.com/mv4r2552.

The event is hosted by MHC Liga Filipina, in collaboration with UMass Filipino Student Association and Liyang Western Massachusetts. The event is sponsored by the Mount Holyoke Critical Social Thought and Gender Studies departments. The event is open to 5 college students.
