In this year's opening to Building On Our Momentum (BOOM!): Community Day, we will come together for a gathering space and vigil addressing the heartbreaking violence towards Asian and Asian American people in the United States. As a memorial tribute to the eight lives stolen during Atlanta area shootings last week, we will invite our community to engage in the ongoing work of challenging oppressive human hierarchies in the world. The DEI Staff in solidarity with alum, faculty, staff and students from around the world will lead this important reflection. As we open our 5th annual BOOM, it will be important to acknowledge the significant histories and legacies of anti-Asian racism, anti-Black racism, gender-based violence and all other forms of oppression. We are also conscious of the need to hold this community gathering space as one where we engage in building group agreements for racial healing to begin. BOOM is a special day of learning where we spend the day as a community on advancing our vision for seeking to eradicate racism and all forms of oppression at Mount Holyoke and throughout the world.
