Date: Academic Year 2024-2025
Dear students,
Every year we take time to notify you of and highlight the College’s student handbook, which went into effect on August 30, 2024, as well as the College’s anti-hazing policy. We encourage you to review both and to know that the Division of Student Life is here to support your student experience. You will also find information about the Federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and how it relates to you.
We also encourage you to familiarize yourself with updates to the College’s Student Demonstrations policy (also found on page 93 of the Student Handbook) as well as our new resource site for Digital Citizenship.
The student handbook can be found at: https://www.mtholyoke.edu/deanofstudents/student-handbook.

Student Handbook
This handbook is updated annually and contains the most current information on the policies and procedures of the College. On the website you will find a PDF that you can download to review. Students are held accountable for knowing the information in the student handbook, so please take some time to review it. Being unaware of a policy does not exempt you from being held accountable for it, so please stay informed by reading the handbook.
FERPA
FERPA was enacted to protect the privacy of and limit access to the educational records of students. Mount Holyoke may not share educational records without the express written consent of the student, except as specified in the law. All institutions of higher education in the United States are subject to this law. Mount Holyoke College’s policy on privacy and access to records is published online. For more information about the confidentiality of student records, see the Student Handbook.
Anti-Hazing Policy
Hazing is a serious offense. The College encourages students to report such offenses promptly. Hazing is prohibited by both state law and the Mount Holyoke College Honor Code and will not be tolerated in this community of trust. All reported cases of suspected hazing will be seriously investigated with a fair process. For more information on the College Anti-Hazing Policy, review the previously shared web page, and for more information on conduct processes and protocols, review the previously shared web page about the Student Handbook.
On November 26, 1985, legislation prohibiting hazing took effect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. All colleges are required to distribute copies of the legislation to each student and to report annually to the Board of Regents that disciplinary policy has been established.
Be on the lookout for an Anti-Hazing Waiver alert in my.mtholyoke; take a moment to read the Massachusetts Hazing Law and confirm your reading and understanding of it.
