Inspired by the late Monacan poet Karenne Wood's critique of concepts of discovery, the workshop expands on knowledge of key strategies for challenging colonial understandings of land in K-12 curricula. Dr. Leilani Sabzalian provides resources to educators seeking to engage in anticolonial curricular alternatives. As the co-author of Teaching Critically About Lewis and Clark: Challenging Dominant Narratives in K-12 Curriculum. Dr. Sabzalian will explore Indigenous peoples' ongoing struggles to protect their homelands and strategies to teach about and support such efforts.
