Join MoZone Peer Educators on the last day of More Than an Ally Week to unpack your white privilege. The purpose of this group is to provide a structured space for white-identified students to introspect on their racial socialization experiences and explore how historical and modern-day manifestations of racism marginalize people of color and privilege white people. Using the intergroup dialogue model as a communication framework, members of this group will have the opportunity to participate in conversations about healing, unlearning, and identifying internalized dominance and foster a community of change agents to cultivate a racially-just climate and culture at Mount Holyoke College (as outlined in the college's antiracism plan).

As a predominantly-white institution, it is imperative that white-identified students are provided the space to reflect on how their racial identity has shaped their experiences at Mount Holyoke and beyond. Racism damages all of us, so it is important that we recognize how it affects us as white people as well and the ways all of our liberation is bound together. Furthermore, it is essential that white students utilize this self-reflection and community of support to be active allies to students of color on campus. For Mount Holyoke to be a safe and supportive environment for all community members, white students must gain a deeper perspective on their racial privilege, unlearn prejudiced beliefs, practice being uncomfortable (confronting thoughts/behaviors/patterns we participate in), connect with and support one another, and actively work in support of racial liberation.

Note for students that came to our session at BOOM: this will be the same material and discussion. We will welcome you back and acknowledge that one session is probably not sufficient, but do be aware that it might feel like a repeat.
