Details
The Day of Remembrance is held every year on February 19 to commemorate the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII. 80 years ago on February 19, 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066 and authorized the incarceration of nearly 125,000 Japanese Americans.
Come learn about the incarceration of Japanese Americans during WWII and how it affects communities today. In particular, the exhibit will feature the stories of three Japanese-American students at Mount Holyoke during the time of Japanese incarceration: Hattie Masuko Kawahara '43, Hiromi Matsumoto Dye '45, and Michiko Nishiura Weglyn '48. We will also explore the subject of Japanese-American reparations.
