Hello Residents,
We hope you are having a good end to your week. In our email on February 24, 2021 we talked about providing more information on how to engage students in positive conversations during this pandemic. Many of you have shared with us the challenges you have faced when having conversations about COVID-19 and how the choices that others make impact you and the greater community. In our previous email we said:
“Building a beloved and caring community that is safe and inclusive requires all community members (students, faculty, staff) to rely on one another to create an environment where people feel comfortable communicating with each other, intervening when being a bystander, and taking accountability for their actions and possible harm. One of the methods which we ask students to use when addressing the harm such as violations of the community compact is Positive Confrontation.”
Recognizing that positive confrontation during COVID looks a little different, Counseling Service, Community and Belonging, and Be Well, have developed a training for all residential students about having these difficult conversations. These training sessions will be facilitated by MoZone and Peer Health Educators and will be offered throughout this week and beyond. These sessions are required for residential students and each session will be capped at 50 participants. Currently sessions this week are available for registration. Sessions during break will also be made available for sign up next week. We promise they will be fun and interactive. You can register for one of the training sessions in Embark for a date and time that works best for you.
It is our goal that these sessions will help us all work together to build a healthy community that is developed through strong communications.
If you are unable to make any of the available sessions, please email res-life@mtholyoke.edu to let us know. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to us!
All the Best,
Latrina Denson, Associate Dean of Students, Community & Inclusion
Rachel Alldis, Associate Dean of Students & Director of Residential Life
