Spring 2025 Closing Memo

Nashalie Vazquez - Friday, April 11, 2025
 General

Dear residential students,

Please read this email in its entirety to prepare for Hall Closing on May 14th at noon.

Housing Freeze

Given that we are two weeks away from the end of the semester, a freeze in room changes has begun. This freeze is done so that students can focus on their finals. If you need an emergency room change during this time please be in touch with your Area Coordinator.

Continuous Quiet Hours

Begin: Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at 12:00AM (the night of May 6 into May 7)

During Continuous Quiet Hours, the residence halls are expected to remain quiet at all times so students can finish work and prepare for final exams. PLEASE respect your neighbors' sleep and study needs during this critical time. Quiet Hours violations will result in a written warning; subsequent violations will result in a conduct hearing that may result in social probation.

Residence Halls Close at 12:00 PM (Noon) on Wednesday, May 14, 2025

All students must have all their belongings out of their rooms and have their rooms checked by a Residential Life staff member. After 12:00 PM (noon) on May 14, 2025, students can wait for late rides at Blanchard Community Center.

Seniors you must have all of your belongings and move out of the residence halls by 12:00 PM (Noon) on Monday, May 26, 2025. You will stay in your room between May 14 and May 26.

Students with approved 5-College exams have already been contacted by the Office of Residential Life.

You must be present for your Boomerang Storage pickup and pick up needs to occur prior to 12:00 PM (noon) on your move-out date.

Move Out Assistance

Students are allowed to have their family/friends/etc. assist with moving them out of the residence halls.

Preparing Your Room for Check-Out

  • Start packing early, do not leave all your packing for closing day.
  • Remove stickers, tape and adhesives from all surfaces.
  • Please return all outstanding dining commons items (utensils, cups, bowls, etc.) to the dining commons. If you cannot make it there, cleaned items should be left near your M&Cs fridge/location.
  • Free Bins are located in each residence hall for items that you no longer want. Free Bins items are donated to Hartsprings Thrift Stores and proceeds go to Big Brothers & Big Sisters at the end of May. No Mattress Toppers or Foam Pads.
  • Properly dispose of ALL trash (Not in the Free Bins).
  • Thoroughly clean out your items from the Golden Pear or your refrigerator if you’re in an apartment.
  • Close and lock windows and pull down window shades.
  • Clean room and suite/apartment (including bathroom toilets, showers, sinks and fixtures). Sweep or vacuum as needed. Do not sweep out into the hallway.

Storage

Trunk Rooms are closed over the summer. The trunk rooms will be cleaned out over the summer. On-campus storage for student items is NOT available over the summer due to College projects and storage needs. You may find a brief listing of area storage facilities on our webpage. Mount Holyoke College or the Office of Residential Life does not endorse or vouch for any of these companies. Our preferred vendor is Boomerang. If your boxes are being picked up by your storage company you must be present to escort your storage company to pick up your belongings.

Boomerang Storage- Boomerang Storage is Mount Holyoke's Preferred Summer Storage Company. Some cool features of their services include directly picking up your belongings at your residence hall room (you must be present and schedule this before May 14th or between 8am-noon on May 14th) and even delivering your storage before you return to school right into your new room. Please note: Boomerang Storage will be the only company permitted to deliver your summer storage into your new room prior to your arrival back to school in the fall. To learn more, visit Boomerang Storage at: www.boomerangstorage.com

Boomerang will be distributing boxes from their truck on April 26, 2025 from 11-2pm located in front of Skinner Hall.

If you are a low income or high/medium need student–both international and domestic–the Student Government Association is excited to share that the pilot program introduced last week has since been funded, and we are going to launch the Subsidized Boomerang Storage Pilot Program for Summer 2025!

The process:

  • You will have until 04/30 to apply for the subsidized Boomerang Storage Pilot Program via the safety net fund.
  • If approved, you will receive a coupon code from Boomerang to use at check-out (valid for up to 4 large items).
  • You will pay Boomerang $30 and any additional items within your cart.
  • You'll then follow the remaining steps (packing up your items, etc.) as provided by Boomerang—Boomerang will provide boxes and come to pick up your items from your room and deliver them to your Fall 2025 dorm when you move in!

Keep in mind: the coupon will only cover up to 4 large boxes. If you wish to purchase more than 4 large boxes, you will have to pay all additional charges as indicated on Boomerang’s website.

Finally, this is a pilot program and is only available for Summer 2025. Graduating seniors do not qualify for this program, and you must be planning to return to campus as an enrolled student for Fall 2025.

Feel free to email sga@mtholyoke.edu if there are any questions about the Subsidized Boomerang Storage Pilot Program for Summer 2025.

Bike Rooms – Bike rooms will be cleaned out over the summer as well. Please be sure that your bike is registered with Parking Services. Unregistered bicycles and those registered to students who have graduated are considered abandoned and are removed at the end of each academic year in order to make room for new bicycles being brought to campus.

Reminder: E-bikes, e-scooters and other lithium-ion battery-powered personal transport devices are prohibited on campus.

Summer Housing

The Summer Housing Form is now closed, and we are no longer accepting new requests. Applicants who have already submitted a request will receive an email notification about their approval status. Additional information about summer housing services will be sent to those who are approved.
