For graduating students of color, this ceremony, which was first held in May 2005 due to the volunteer efforts of faculty and staff of color, serves as an opportunity for the students, along with parents, faculty, staff, and friends, to get together and celebrate their achievements. Additionally, this ceremony offers an opportunity for graduating students of color to acknowledge a mentor (someone who has inspired and supported them while at MHC), and to also reflect on their experiences here. The mentor should be an employee of Mount Holyoke College. As part of the ceremony, the mentor will bestow a traditional Kente cloth stole or sash upon the student.

The Stoling Ceremony is now sponsored by the SGA Students of Color Committee under the advisement of Latrina L. Denson, Associate Dean for Community and Inclusion.
